What's New for the 2018 Lincoln MKT?

The Lincoln MKT is Ford's take on a vehicles segment that is often difficult to get right - the full-size luxury SUV. Unsurprisingly, get it right they do, combining excellent performance credentials and advanced technology features with a luxurious interior and unique styling. The MKT has arrived at its current configuration after a mid-cycle refresh in 2013, after which it has only needed minor tweaks such as a new infotainment system in 2016 and a slightly redesigned grille last year. This year, designers have taken aim at the MKT's different trim lines, rearranging them into two simple and easy-to-choose tiers: Premiere and Reserve. Other than that, the 2018 Lincoln MKT is the same attractive and stylish vehicle that it was last year.

High-Tech Features

As a luxury vehicle, the Lincoln MKT lives and dies by its impressive portfolio of features designed to excite, impress and pamper. This year, the Lincoln MKT is available in two varieties: the straightforward and nicely-equipped Premiere model and the decadent Reserve model, which can further be kitted out with additional luxury and safety options.

The Lincoln MKT Premiere is only available in one configuration, but it is quite a lavish one. Upholstered in leather with upscale accents, it includes both heating and cooling for the front seats, as well as a high-resolution responsive 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and has both a powered liftgate and HID lights. It only comes with front-wheel drive, and is equipped with the standard 'Cyclone' 3.7-liter V-6 engine.

The Lincoln MKT Reserve adds a few features to the excellent set offered by the Premiere, but its greatest strength are its optional packages. All Reserve models are all-wheel drive, and come with a stronger engine and an adaptive suspension damping system. They also come standard with a heated steering wheel, navigation, a high-end audio system, and blind spot monitoring. On top of that, you can add a number of packages, such as second-row captain's chairs that come with heating and ventilation, as well as an optional refrigerated console. Other available packages include a sunroof, rear seat entertainment and an active safety package.

Engine and Performance

2018 Lincoln MKTWhile the primary focus of the Lincoln MKT is to deliver a luxurious and smooth ride, it does not shy away from backing that up with some serious power. The base engine on the Lincoln MKT is a 3.7-liter V-6 dubbed 'Cyclone'. It puts out 303 horsepower, which offers a fairly strong and satisfying performance together with the MKT's balanced suspension. The Premiere upgrade has a lot to offer drivers focused on performance as well. It adds an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system and a Continuously Controlled Damping system, which give it better traction and better suspension response. More importantly, the Premiere upgrades the engine to a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged model with an output of 365 horsepower. The difference is easily felt, and performance enthusiasts are certain to be pleased by the Lincoln MKT's performance.

Safety Systems

2018 Lincoln MKTThe Lincoln MKT is a full-size SUV that is equipped with high-end road safety technology, making safety its strong suite. It can be equipped with the full set of modern crash prevention features, from a rearview camera to a radar-based forward collision warning system that can automatically engage the brakes to avoid a collision. The Lincoln MKT also performs admirably in crash testing, getting 'Good' scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety on all of the tests that they have done thus far. From a safety perspective, the Lincoln MKT is among the best cars that you could purchase today.
